I cant believe this ...

Oh wow.

I just read this in one of the local dailies ... do we really need more to see how bad it has become? I, for one would think twice now before making a police report ..

A 58-YEAR-OLD grandmother and two mothers were among 18 people rounded up by police in a supposed sweep against rival gangs in a small town near Kuala Selangor.

But, the women hauled up -- and at 1 am too -- were the ones who had signed a petition to urge the police to rid their community in Taman Tennamaram of the gangsterism terror they had been enduring for purportedly more than 10 years.

Yesterday, the women and their families were outraged, claiming that they were treated like criminals instead of being seen as law-abiding citizens seeking police help.

The manner in which they were picked up has left residents of Taman Tennamaram furious. A police party had stormed grandma P. Thanggama’s house at 1am yesterday while she was asleep.

Residents alleged the raiding party had jumped over the gate before hammering on the door at that 'ungodly hour' and detained her. At the same time, K. Bathma and B. Poongavanam, both 45, were also picked up.

Their “arrests” have shocked the community who were at a loss why the women were "being treated like criminals".

Police explained later that the women were picked up to record their statements in connection with a petition and police reports that were made against gang members.

But why rope them in at 1am?

Kuala Selangor police chief Supt Ibrahim Chin said: “When we ask these people to come and give their statements they do not turn up. “When we go to their homes during the day, they are not there. Therefore, we decided to go at that hour, as that is the only time we could get hold of them.”
